Job Purpose
To make a substantial and positive contribution to our strategic direction by leading and shaping our world-changing and internationally-competitive research and transnational education, providing high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/GC UESTC/College. To actively engage with external stakeholders to promote knowledge exchange, public understanding, and outreach. The teaching responsibilities will be delivered from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) campuses, requiring you to live and work overseas in Chengdu and Lingshui Li’an, China, for at least one teaching semester per year (typically 18-20 weeks).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lead, develop, and maintain a coherent research program; contribute to external research funding applications; participate in research strategy development.
2. Maintain a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or scholarly presses to enhance the international profile.
3. Plan, organize, develop, and deliver curriculum within engineering, including developing research-led courses and adopting inclusive learning approaches.
4. Participate in examination and assessment processes, providing effective feedback to support student learning.
5. Supervise student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engaging with potential research students, and supervising to completion.
6. Maintain an external profile through seminars, conferences, and roles in professional societies.
7. Develop and maintain the subject area's reputation with stakeholders and international organizations.
8. Take on administrative or management roles within Glasgow College as assigned.
9. Engage in professional development activities.
10. Undertake other duties as required by the Head of School.
11. Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in line with Strategy 2025.
For appointment at Grade 10:
1. Undertake academic management and leadership to enhance student experience and program quality.
2. Lead strategic initiatives in teaching and assessment practices across the School/College.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge and Qualifications
* Essential: PhD or equivalent (Level 12 QCF) with an established research reputation and significant teaching experience.
* Membership of a relevant professional body or commitment to achieve professional status within two years.
For Grade 10 (Professorial):
* Established international reputation for research and knowledge exchange; successful external grant funding; mentoring experience.
* Understanding of academic leadership and management; engagement with institutional strategies.
Skills
* Internationally recognized research reputation; extensive publication record; successful funding acquisition; leadership in teaching and curriculum development; excellent communication skills; commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Experience
* Strong national and international research reputation; high-impact publications; research funding success; experience in teaching and supervision; research project management; contributions to scientific societies.
* For Grade 10: extensive research income, leadership, and management experience.
