Job Overview
Hadfield Services Limited is seeking a Technical Buyer to join our team in Burton on Trent. The Technical Buyer will be responsible for the strategic procurement of technical equipment, machinery, and services required for our operations. This role involves sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels, and ensuring timely delivery to support our projects and operational needs. The successful candidate will bring a blend of technical knowledge and procurement expertise to optimize supplier performance and contribute to cost-efficiency and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for technical and engineering equipment and services.
Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to ensure best value and high quality.
Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with company objectives and project timelines.
2. Supplier Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure consistent quality, delivery, and cost-efficiency.
Monitor supplier performance through KPIs and manage contracts to ensure compliance with terms.
Identify and qualify alternative suppliers to diversify supply sources and mitigate risks.
3. Cost Control
Develop and manage procurement budgets, seeking opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
Track, report, and analyze procurement spending to identify areas for cost savings.
4. Technical Evaluation & Support
Conduct technical evaluations of products, equipment, and supplier capabilities to ensure alignment with company standards.
Work with engineering and project teams to understand technical specifications and project requirements.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in materials and technology relevant to the company’s needs.
5. Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and industry regulations in all procurement activities.
Participate in regular quality assessments and audits to ensure purchased goods meet required standards.
Maintain accurate records and documentation for auditing and traceability purposes.
Skills & Qualifications
1. Experience: 3+ years in a procurement, sourcing, or buying role with a technical focus, preferably in manufacturing or engineering.
2. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of technical products and components; ability to read and interpret engineering specifications.
3. Procurement Knowledge: Proficiency in strategic sourcing, contract management, and supplier negotiation.
4. Systems & Tools: Experience with ERP or procurement software (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills; analytical mindset and attention to detail.
