Rotational with 2 days 06:00 – 18:00, the next 2 days are 18:00 – 06:00 Job PurposeThe Shift Maintenance Engineer will ensure the safe and efficient delivery of multi-skilled engineering support during their shift. This role requires effective utilization of skills, resources, contractors, and adherence to policies and procedures to maintain and enhance productive assets, departmental operations, and overall site performance.The engineer will also contribute to long-term improvement projects and foster a sustainable and efficient work environment.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational ExcellenceEnsure all engineering activities are cost-effective and avoid repeat failures on equipment.Participate in improvement initiatives and support operational performance aligned with business objectives.Utilize problem-solving techniques to identify and eliminate inefficiencies and faults.Asset ManagementMaintain and monitor assets using maintenance management systems to deliver planned and unplanned maintenance efficiently.Ensure resources are deployed effectively to meet internal and external customer needs.Team CollaborationWork closely with team members and contractors to ensure smooth shift operations.Actively participate in meetings to report on performance and address root causes of issues.Provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching to team members, fostering a high-performance culture.Compliance and SafetyAdhere to health and safety standards and promote a strong safety culture on-site.Report accidents, near misses, and equipment faults promptly.Ensure protective equipment is used correctly and drive initiatives to improve safety performance.Continuous ImprovementSupport the implementation of continuous improvement strategies to enhance operational excellence.Look for opportunities to reduce energy consumption and minimize the site’s environmental impact.Food Safety and QualityEnsure GMP standards are met, maintaining food safety, legality, and product integrity.Support quality assurance processes and adhere to food hygiene regulations.Other DutiesUphold animal welfare standards at all times.Perform other reasonable duties as required by the role.Skills and QualificationsEssentialNVQ Level 3 or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering.Strong fault-finding skills in both electrical and mechanical systems.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.Basic understanding of PLC I/O systems.Experience with drives, motors, transmissions, and closed-loop feedback systems.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.DesirableExperience in the food industry, particularly in processing or manufacturing.Certification in health and safety practices.Familiarity with SCADA systems and programming VSDs.Fabrication skills and experience operating MEWPs.Values and BehavioursDemonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions.Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration.Communicate effectively and escalate concerns appropriately.Commit to personal and team development to meet business needs.
