Purpose of the Role:
To perform Structural Analysis in order to maximise the structural performance of the F1 car. To drive, implement, and deliver methodology, process, and workflow advancements in our Structural Analysis capabilities, enabling our team to utilise the tools more effectively.
Role Dimensions:
* Multifaceted role exposing you to the full realm of structural analysis by directly performing simulation as well as working on tools increasing the team’s efficiency.
* You’ll be working closely with the design teams directly impacting car performance.
* You’ll also be working closely with Software Development and CFD teams to drive FEA tools development.
* This role is predominantly factory based but may involve occasional travel when working in collaboration with third parties.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Work independently to develop and validate FEA structural models.
* Ensure solutions meet functional safety and reliability requirements.
* Timely reporting of analysis results in a clear, concise and structured manner.
* Specify and support component sign-off testing.
* Provide technical input into proposals and develop understanding.
* Analyse problems, take a new perspective on existing solutions and improve on them.
* Deliver improvements in methods/ processes, by researching, developing and testing new methodologies before rolling out to the rest of the team.
* Champion various tools used in Structural Design team in their workflow. Develop in-depth understanding of these tools and develop techniques to address their limitations or improve them.
* Mapping and automating workflows and processes; scripting of bespoke tools and plug-ins where suitable.
* Be able to contribute and help maintain a large codebase.
* Investigate and benchmark new and alternative tools/ technologies and cost reduction opportunities, liaising with software vendors.
* Develop processes to allow efficient extraction of insights from track and lab test data.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Strong Degree in Mechanical/ Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
* Good knowledge of structural/ stress analysis methodologies, including classical hand calculations (Basic Sizing, Fatigue etc.).
* Coding and scripting experience.
* Some familiarity with mainstream FEA packages and solvers desirable (Hyperworks, Abaqus, Optistruct).
* Some knowledge of composites is desirable.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
