Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Corneal Fellow in Ophthalmology. This post based at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre offers opportunities to gain subspecialty and research experience in complex corneal and external eye disease. The fellow will work with five corneal consultants and will be exposed to tertiary level care of a wide range of medical and surgical ophthalmic cases in this busy regional eye center.
This is for 2 posts – one is a 12 month post starting in July 2025 and one is a 12 month post starting in August 2025.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have completed their core curriculum and should have previous experience in corneal and external eye disease preferably as a fellow or TSC (Trainee Selected Component). Possession of CCT or equivalent is desirable. Applicants must hold registration with the General Medical Council.
The programme includes Corneal and Ocular Surface Subspecialty clinic sessions as well opportunities to attend specialist Theatres. The post is whole time and non-resident. The Corneal Fellow will be required to participate in out of hours on-call commitment.

Qualifications
* CCT or equivalent international qualification
Clinical Experience
* Completed core curriculum training in ophthalmology in the UK (or equivalent international qualification)
* Previous corneal and external diseases training
* Able to take a detailed medical history, carry out a full medical examination and arrive at a differential diagnosis
* Able to manage common medical and eye emergencies
* Surgical and laser experience
* Previous advanced sub-specialty training opportunity or fellowship in corneal and external diseases
Professional and Multi-disciplinary team working
* Ability to work well with colleagues/within a team
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively as required for the post
Clinical Effectiveness
* Experience of taking part in clinical audit
Research Experience
* Understands principles and value of research
* Participate in papers, presentations or posters
