An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (6 PA’s) Speciality Dr in Perinatal Mental Health Inpatient Unit. The post holder will be a core member of the new Mother and Baby Unit, Seren Lodge.
The successful applicant will work alongside the Consultant for Seren Lodge Mother and Baby Unit but also have good links to the Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Service which has 4 Consultants and a team working across Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust.
This post is to work on a new Mother and Baby Unit, a specialist provision for women with mental health problems during pregnancy and/or in the year after their baby is born. Patients in the postnatal period will have their babies with them during their time as an inpatient on the Mother and Baby Unit. The Mother and Baby Unit will be an 8 bedded unit with 6 beds commissioned by NHS England for the women of Cheshire and Merseyside and 2 beds commissioned by NHS Wales for the women of North Wales. The Mother and Baby Unit will also accept referrals for out of area women when there are beds available.
The post holder will be directly involved with the assessment, diagnoses and management of pregnant and post-natal women who are inpatients on the Mother and Baby Unit referred with severe, complex difficulties or prominent risk issues.
Utilise a flexible approach to delivery of clinical care so that it best meets the needs of mother and infant at any given time.
Support colleagues in other specialist mental health services and within primary care and other inpatient wards – particularly GPs, midwives, health visitors, IAPT and social care services - to facilitate all women receiving evidenced based, good quality mental health care during the perinatal period.
Contribute to the education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines that meet women during the perinatal period.
Contribute to the development of the service and be actively involved in the critical evaluation of its effectiveness over time.
Be readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the medical records and undertake administrative duties associated with the care of the patient.
To act as an Approved Clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 and carry out duties in accordance to the code of practice.
