SUPPORT WORKER (SUPPORTED LIVING)
JOB TITLE: SUPPORT WORKER (SUPPORTED LIVING)
RESPONSIBLE TO: SENIOR / SERVICE MANAGER
JOB PURPOSE:
To support the Service in providing a good standard of care to the service users who require support with their day-to-day management. To provide quality support and promote independence in all aspects of daily life to service users within the home in training, in employment, and in leisure activities.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Personal Support:
o Develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with service users, promoting their self-esteem and emotional health.
o Respect service users' right to privacy and ensure their dignity and individuality are maintained.
o Encourage and support service users in expressing their needs and making choices.
o Support service users in developing a socially valued lifestyle.
o Facilitate social activities in line with individual interests.
o Assist in general housekeeping tasks.
o Create opportunities for service users to develop and maintain friendships.
o Achieve appropriate communication techniques based on individual needs.
o Provide support in contacts with healthcare specialists and other agencies.
o Ensure service users receive necessary health checks and promote a healthy lifestyle.
o Encourage and support service users in education and employment opportunities.
o Assist with medication ordering and recording.
o Work within the ethos and values of the service to promote independent living.
2. Individual Support Planning:
o Help develop and update individual support plans.
o Ensure daily learning logs are completed professionally.
o Contribute to annual person-centred reviews.
o Act as lead support for individuals when requested.
o Support individuals with challenging behaviours using appropriate strategies.
o Be responsive to the individual needs of service users.
3. Financial:
o Assist with understanding personal banking arrangements.
o Support tenants in understanding tenancy agreements.
o Maintain accurate records of expenditure.
o Submit accurate working time records.
4. Liaison, Communication and Teamwork:
o Attend team and tenant meetings.
o Participate in training and staff development sessions.
o Work effectively as part of a team and independently.
o Assist with the induction and training of new staff.
o Ensure effective communication with colleagues and service users.
o Maintain confidentiality regarding all information.
5. Service Policy and Development:
o Comply with all service policies and procedures.
o Report any incidents affecting health and safety.
o Carry out duties safely in accordance with health and safety policies.
o Participate in infection control activities.
o Promote equality of opportunity throughout the service.
6. General:
o Treat personal belongings with respect.
o Take action in emergencies.
o Ensure mandatory training is up to date.
o Work to a high professional standard.
o Maintain the home environment to a high standard.
o Undertake other duties as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION – SUPPORT WORKER (SUPPORTED LIVING)
Qualifications and Experience:
* Diploma in Health & Social Care (NVQ Level 2, 3, or 4) or willingness to complete within 18 months.
* Experience of supporting or caring for others.
* Experience of working within a team and independently (desirable).
Skills and Knowledge:
* Effective communication skills.
* Knowledge of needs and rights of people with learning disabilities.
* Basic numeracy and literacy skills.

Pay: £11.45-£12.45 per hour
