Sr. Crane Mechanic Purpose: Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Sr. Crane Mechanic to oversee maintenance on our fleet of cranes to include Fiji and Gurdeson cranes, in support of general Shipyard operations in Norfolk, VA. Job Description: Apply electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical theory and knowledge to test and modify crane machinery. Complete overhaul and repair of crane machinery and components. Operate crane machinery for testing, inspection, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. Complete routine and preventative maintenance. Assist with annual 3 rd party inspection of crane machinery and components. Replace, rework, and/or refinish worn and/or damaged parts in accordance with specifications and guidelines. Use diagnostic, test, and measuring tools and equipment to examine/evaluate crane machinery and components. Disassemble and reassemble equipment using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools. Test crane machinery and components after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications. Coordinate overseas Tech rep. and Diagnostic support from Manufacturers. Read, understand, and interpret blueprints, operation manuals, parts manuals, and technical drawings. Complete service reports and other paperwork as assigned. Comply with procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment. Apply basic math, reading, and communication skills. Control cost in assigned area of responsibility. Understand and act upon instruction / work independently to complete responsibilities. Must have regular, reliable attendance. Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates. Qualifications: Must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Must have 2-year degree / 2 years Armed Forces training in related field with at least 9 years of experience in maintaining and repairing heavy electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment OR 12 years of experience in maintaining and repairing heavy electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment with at least 4 years supervisory experience. Must demonstrate expert knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Must be able to interpret technical drawings (mechanical and electrohydraulic) Must demonstrate expert knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with trade. Must be proficient with computers, Microsoft 365, and AutoCAD Must have a clean driving record. Must be able to work effectively with others. Must be a steady, reliable worker. Desired Qualifications: Prefer previous maritime/shipyard experience. Prefer knowledge and experience with Fiji and Gurdeson Cranes. Prefer ability to obtain DBIDS. Security Requirements: U.S Citizenship Required. Travel Requirements: Minimal Travel; 10% or less. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs. Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes. May ride ships at sea for extended periods Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment. Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts. While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl. Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation Frequent use of respirator. Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
