Job summary This is a full time permanent post at Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) in our very busy Department of Blood Sciences which processes 1500-2000 samples per site each day and is UKAS accredited. Nominal Base will be DMH but you will be expected to travel to and work at the other hospital sites within the Trust including Durham (UHND), Bishop Auckland (BAH) and Shotley Bridge (SBH) as required. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, dedicated team of professionals as a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist -Team Manager in Blood Transfusion. You must be able to demonstrate higher specialist knowledge in Blood Transfusion at both a technical and theoretical level and also preferably have broad experience in Haematology and Coagulation at specialist level. You will be a proactive member of the Blood Sciences Team and Trust Transfusion Team, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to work within a team processing a high workload of specimens. You should have great multi-tasking ability, have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail and be able to appropriately prioritise urgent work. Main duties of the job The candidate will be a Team Leader in Blood Transfusion and may assist in a team leader capacity in Haematology and Blood Sciences as needed. They will organise the day to day staffing and duties to ensure a quality service is provided and turn around times met. They will liaise with the rest the Transfusion Team, Band 7 at UHND, Transfusion Quality Coordinator, Transfusion Practitioner and ATPs and the Manager responsible for Transfusion. Liaison with Pathology IT and Quality teams including the Pathology training lead is essential. Attend meetings monthly- Transfusion Team meeting, Haematology and Blood Transfusion Quality meeting, Haematology Specialty group meeting if needed. Attend quarterly - Trust Transfusion meetings, NHSBT User Group Using the Quality Management System ensuring quality requirements for the laboratory are met for MHRA and UKAS and being present at any inspections and reviewing and addressing any findings raised. Validation of analysers and IT systems ensuring new processes and equipment are fit for purpose and all documentation is completed is line with ISO15189:2022.
