Engineering Technician – Baggage
From £41,130 + Shift Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Join us to help redefine what’s possible in our Engineering department at Gatwick Airport.
The Engineering team maintains and repairs infrastructure including electricity, plant rooms, and specialized equipment on the airfield.
Role Overview:
Perform maintenance and intervention tasks on baggage system equipment to ensure high operational uptime. This shift-based role includes night and weekend work, supporting key assets like conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT control systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Undertake planned and reactive maintenance to optimize asset performance.
2. Maintain accurate engineering and operational records.
3. Support performance improvement initiatives.
4. Ensure safety procedures are followed, including PPE use and incident reporting.
5. Utilize GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office).
6. Develop skills to maintain existing and new assets.
7. Complete role-specific training.
8. Work in passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport campus.
9. Collaborate effectively; this role does not have direct reports.
Candidate Requirements:
* Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic) or equivalent.
* Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (Level 3/ONC or higher).
* Technical maintenance experience.
* Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical schematics.
* Experience in relevant engineering disciplines.
* Ability to implement system improvements.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving license.
Interview Process:
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. 1-hour technical assessment with the Engineering Leader and hiring manager.
