Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced archaeologist to join the expanding Heritage, Townscape and Archaeology team as a Senior Archaeologist. The role is flexible in terms of location throughout England with staff expected to be in an office or out on site visits a minimum of three days a week.
The role requires the candidate to provide archaeological consultancy advice to colleagues and clients. The successful candidate will be able to show they can work positively in a variety of demanding environments, have commercial acumen, work with multi-disciplinary teams with different goals, and be proactive in helping to develop business opportunities and provide technical support for the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparation of technical reports including: Archaeological Desk-Based Assessments, Written Schemes of Investigation for archaeological fieldwork, Historic Environment Desk-Based Assessments (built heritage and archaeology), archaeological inputs into all stages of Environmental Impact Assessments, use of ArcGIS to produce figures and maps for reports.
* Conducting site walkovers and archive visits to inform desk-based research.
* Procuring and managing archaeological fieldwork subcontractors. Undertaking site monitoring visits whilst fieldwork is ongoing, and with the County Archaeologist present. Quality assuring reports submitted by archaeological fieldwork subcontractors.
* Liaising and negotiating with local authorities, County Archaeologists, Historic England and other stakeholders as necessary.
Key Skills
* Detailed understanding of managing archaeological projects and consultancy.
* Relevant degree qualification and thorough knowledge of current UK legislation, policy and guidance for heritage.
* At least 5 years contractor and/or consultancy experience, and a sound knowledge of British archaeology.
* Practitioner (PCIfA) or Associate (ACIfA) member (minimum) of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) or willing to apply for such within the first 6 months of employment.
Additional Responsibilities
* Providing robust archaeological consultancy advice to colleagues and clients across all business sectors.
* Reporting to clients and senior colleagues and working with other heritage team members on collaborative projects.
* Develop relationships with clients as well as cross-team colleagues within Savills. IT skills and competency with ArcGIS.

The Heritage Townscape and Archaeology Team currently has 11 members: one Director, two Associate Directors, three Associates, three Senior Consultants, one Consultant and one team administrator. The Heritage Townscape and Archaeology team comprises an in-house multi-disciplinary service, offering professional advice on all matters concerning built heritage, townscape and archaeology. We provide archaeological advice on a wide range of projects including national energy infrastructure, residential developments of varying scales, and for private individuals, working closely with our in-house planning teams and other Savills specialists.
