The Dance programme at Bromley Schools' Collegiate prepares you to teach dance to secondary students, nurturing their creativity, physical development, and teamwork skills. The course provides a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience, allowing you to guide students in exploring various dance styles, choreography, and performance techniques.
The programme includes two placements in contrasting secondary schools, where you will gradually take on more responsibility in planning and delivering lessons, assessing students’ progress, and guiding them through the creative process.
Key Focus Areas:
The programme covers various dance forms such as ballet, contemporary, street dance, and other performance styles. You’ll focus on developing students' technique, choreography skills, and ability to express themselves through movement. You will also cover dance history, theory, and its role in culture and society.
In addition, the course emphasizes physical fitness, coordination, and discipline, helping students build confidence and self-expression through dance. Practical experience will also involve staging performances and encouraging students to collaborate in dance productions.
Mentoring and Support:
Throughout your placements, you will receive support and mentoring from experienced dance educators, who will offer regular feedback and guidance to help you improve your teaching skills and classroom management techniques. This mentorship is designed to build your confidence and ensure you're fully prepared to teach dance at the secondary level.
Bursaries & Scholarships:
A£10,000 bursary is available for eligible candidates, and there are alsoDfE scholarships offering£31,000 for high-calibre applicants. Scholarships come with additional benefits, including subject-specific events, professional development opportunities, and mentoring.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants should have a degree (minimum 2:2) in Dance or a closely related field, with at least50% of the degree in Dance-related content. Alternatively, applicants should have anA-Level in Dance at grade B or higher with evidence of continued subject knowledge development. GCSEs inEnglish and Maths (C/4 or above) are also required.

* QTS with PGCE: £9,200
