Westover Surgery is looking to employ a positive and confident HCA to join our friendly nursing team. The service is operated over two GP sites in Falmouth with a committed, dedicated team of clinicians and non-clinicians. This multi-disciplinary team has been created to meet the changing patient demands on the NHS over the last few years.
The successful candidate will work alongside the rest of the nursing team and under the supervision of the practice nurses to provide treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education to our diverse patient group. Any necessary training will be provided to ensure each job role can be performed safely and efficiently.
The post-holder will be required to have MMR and Hepatitis B vaccinations.
We are seeking to appoint someone for 16 hours per week, ideally on a Monday, Tuesday/Thursday, and Friday. Salary is dependent on experience and there is an opportunity to join the NHS pension scheme.
Main duties of the job
1. New patient health checks
2. Urine testing/analysis
3. Blood pressure measurement/monitoring
4. ECG
5. Height and weight measurement
6. Removal of sutures
7. Take pathology samples from patients for analysis (blood, sputum, urine etc)
8. Wound care and dressings
9. Immunisations, including influenza, pneumovax, and vitamin B12 under a PSD
10. Supporting the practice nurses with the management of chronic disease monitoring
11. Chaperoning and assisting GPs with coil fitting
12. Support in the delivery of the Covid vaccination programme
About us
Westover is a very supportive team consisting of 6 GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, a paramedic, first contact practitioners, pharmacists, and administrative staff. The successful candidate will work alongside our team to deliver care to patients accessing primary care.

Qualifications
* Qualified to NVQ level 3 (or equivalent)
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
* Ability to provide quality care
* Skills in Phlebotomy, ECGs, Patient Health Checks, Blood Pressures
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Good organisational skills
* Good team working skills
* Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions
* Adaptable to change
* Experience in Wound Care and Removal of sutures & staples
* Compression and Doppler therapy
* Health and safety awareness
* Awareness of Blood Borne Viruses
Experience
* Experience within a healthcare setting
* Experience in a GP Practice
