World of Work Advisor
Contract term: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours over 5 days (Mon-Fri)
Location: To cover our Barry & Bridgend Centres.
Salary: Grade 5 £26,375 rising to £29,540 per annum

What you’ll do:
Are you passionate about supporting young people in their journey to employment? We’re looking for a proactive and engaging World of Work Advisor to help learners develop their career goals, gain meaningful work experience, and progress into employment.
You will work with our tutors, employers and other stakeholders to create and promote real opportunities for our Jobs Growth Wales+ (JGW+) learners. You will support our young people by providing relevant advice and guidance at multiple stages of the learner journey.
You will engage with learners either in small groups or 1-2-1 sessions to discuss their career goals, confirm their occupational aims, and support their progression. You assist with placement searching, liaising with employers to arrange interviews and secure suitable work-related experiences that align with learner needs.
You will deliver employability skills sessions, mentor learners in the centre and on placements, and conduct progress reviews using OneFile to track their development. You also provide curriculum delivery support sessions, ensuring learners receive the guidance they need to succeed.
Engaging with employers is a key part of your role, promoting ACT’s services, securing apprenticeship vacancies, and organising employer visits, events, and business networking opportunities. You collaborate with Working Wales and local schools to raise awareness of ACT’s programmes.
Additionally, you monitor health and safety at placement providers, collect destination evidence, and report on learner progress to the World of Work Manager. Your day is focused on ensuring excellent customer service while supporting both learners and employers to achieve successful outcomes. This role fits within the JGW+ department reporting to the
ACT is committed to promoting the Welsh language for both staff and learners, and whilst it is not considered essential criteria, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role.
What we need from you:
• Experience of providing advice and guidance to young people (youth or young adults).
• Experience of business development practices and generating new business opportunities (learner starts, placements and progression opportunities).
• Experience of delivering to groups.
• Good level of Math and English (spoken and written)
• Excellent IT Skills (Microsoft Office)
• Team player with ability to work on own initiative
• Full UK driving licence
• Well organised
