Organisation/clinic: North Canterbury Veterinary Clinics
Location: Cheviot
Position type: Sheep and Beef Veterinarian
North of Christchurch and in a leading privately owned mixed practice, a career opportunity balanced with a desirable lifestyle awaits.
We feel privileged to deliver our services within one of New Zealand’s most beautiful and progressive regions, and are excited to invite you to explore this career opportunity with us. We know that where you choose to call ‘home’ impacts every aspect of your life and we are passionate about ensuring that life and work are purposeful, fulfilling, safe, and secure.
North Canterbury Vets is located in the beautiful South Island, within the diverse and nurturing rural district of Hurunui, which sits just north of Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest and most evolving city. It has loads of open spaces and time for everyone and is perfect for individuals or families.
Since 1954, we have been serving our communities professionally and loyally, with our four clinics based in Amberley, Cheviot, Culverden, and Waikari. We have excellent dairy, sheep, beef, and deer farmers, who we are proud to support through the provision of innovative animal health care. You will get to work with our team of 70 staff, spread across our four clinics, where support, mentoring, interaction, and diversity are all present within our friendly and professionally underpinned culture.
About the role:
This full-time permanent opportunity is based in our Cheviot clinic due to the upcoming retirement of one of our directors/senior sheep and beef veterinarians in June 2025. We can also accommodate some interest in dairy, small animal, or deer work. Clinical hours are 8am-5pm Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibilities for large animal emergencies only. Our current roster is 1:8 weekends, with a fully paid day off the following Friday to ensure you have a restful long weekend post being on call. We currently have plans completed to build a brand new clinic in Cheviot, which will provide a modern, purpose-built building to work from in our local community. Potential business partnership opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
About you:
* You will have a minimum of 4 years' sheep and beef experience.
* A passion for sheep and beef production.
* A strong commitment to delivering high standards of care.
* Exceptional organisation and communication skills.
* A friendly, positive ‘can do’ attitude.
* A proven excellent team player.
