South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
There are many reasons to join our team at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. Our new Eye Hospital in Sunderland is taking shape and means Sunderland will remain home to the region's only dedicated standalone eye hospital. It will strengthen our excellent reputation across the NHS, both regionally and nationally as a centre of excellence for ophthalmology care.
As one of the few specialist eye hospitals in the country, research and using developing technology is a key part of our work. We encourage innovation and research in everything we do. If you share our vision for 'excellence in all that we do', we would love you to join us!

The successful candidate will be supported by trained theatre staff and provided with a comprehensive induction programme. The post is a part-time 32 hours per week permanent position. The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of care to patients. The successful candidate will ensure that they work within the NMC code and supervise non-registered staff under the requirements of delegation, complying with the relevant visions, values, and behaviours.
The role requires coordinating the theatre lists, scrubbing for various ophthalmic surgeries, circulating and assisting the scrub team in theatre, admitting and discharging day case patients, and recovering patients after general anaesthesia and sedation. This requires the ability to work without supervision. The role also supports students and other members of staff from other departments, as well as taking part in the on-call rota after working hours, on weekends, and on bank holidays.
