Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated individual to work in our regulatory team in Hertfordshire and North London delivering compliance on hazardous waste and waste classification. Our industrial sectors can produce, handle, and receive large volumes of hazardous waste and it is important that these wastes are classified and described correctly. Misdescription of these wastes can result in a wide range of environmental impacts. Ensuring compliance with these regulations provides a level playing field for industry to operate in.
You will be recognised as the Hazardous Waste Technical Lead, oversee hazardous waste regulatory delivery for the team, contribute to the development and delivery of the hazardous waste regime delivery plan and report on performance. You will focus your time on hazardous waste and waste classification compliance activities - centred around operations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations such as chemical manufacture, incineration, metals, paper and textiles, and refineries. You will review waste classification assessments in accordance with Guidance on the classification and assessment of waste to ensure waste produced and received by operators is correctly classified.
Please note we will only be able to accept applications from those that hold a full UK driving license. Please only apply if you hold this.
The Team
In the Installations team, you'll be shaping and improving environmental conditions throughout Hertfordshire and North London. The teams work flexibly across the area, regulating sites in a range of industrial sectors including chemicals manufacturing, landfill, incineration, food and drink, and paper and textiles.
Our Welwyn Garden City office has a hybrid model allowing individuals to work either at home or at our office.
Experience/Skills Required
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual who:
1. Has strong operational experience and knowledge of Hazardous Waste Regime regulation. Specific experience of process industry or waste management is desirable.
2. Has good technical knowledge of hazardous waste compliance, guidance on the classification and assessment of waste and the Hazardous Waste Regulations.
3. Can confidently deal with complex situations by adopting a pragmatic approach to achieve the best environmental outcomes.
4. Has the ability to manage and prioritise workload to achieve good outcomes and deliver against plans.
5. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate how you would provide technical leadership.
6. Manages and motivates themselves - works independently and manages workload to deliver expected results and associated reporting.
7. Works in teams to support colleagues to achieve common goals.
8. Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent - able to demonstrate comparable technical knowledge/experience.
Competencies
1. Legislative Knowledge: Applies a knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect both the Environment Agency and the environment.
2. Securing Compliance: Secures compliance of individuals and organisations with permits and legislation.
3. Influences and Persuades Others: Presenting a case in a convincing and attractive way that will win people over, encouraging them to follow plans willingly; often succeeding where logic and reason alone would fail.
4. Takes Decisions and Solves Problems: Finds and delivers optimal solutions by effectively analysing all the information, probing to develop alternatives and taking sound and timely decisions.
