About the Position
The Project Manager for the Graterford Archive will facilitate, support, and mobilize all aspects of this multi-year, freedom-seeking project. The Graterford Archive is a Mellon grant-funded project to develop a digital archive documenting the experiences of those affected by the State Correctional Institute (SCI) – Graterford, including incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men and their loved ones and communities. The project brings together many community groups already working in this space, as well as faculty and students engaging with carceral issues as part of Haverford College’s decades-long engagement with artists and activists at SCI-Graterford. The project is directed through and infused by the spirit of “nothing about us without us,” and will involve those from the Graterford community.
The Project Manager will join a team working on The Graterford Archive that includes a Creative Director, Community Archivist, Planning Coordinator, and Faculty Curricular Innovation Director.
Primary Responsibilities
* Manage the Mellon Imagining Freedom grant budget
* Assist in the coordination of internal resources and third parties/vendors associated with the project that are outside the scope of the Artistic Director, including drafting of project MOUs and their oversight
* Coordinate with project team members to ensure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules
* Provide administrative support for the project, including tracking and verification of expenses, execution of MOUs/contracts, process reimbursements, and scheduling of large meetings
* Establish effective project communication plans and ensure their execution
* Develop a detailed project plan to track progress
* Work with Steering Committee and Office of Institutional Advancement to address changes in project scope, schedule, and costs in a timely manner
* Prepare status reports for internal reporting on the project
* Draft interim and end-of-year project progress reports to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
* Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the summer program with the Youth Art and Self-Empowerment Project (YASP), including all required administrative activities leading up to the camp
* Oversee the implementation of the three-week summer program for youth, including managing logistics of the summer youth program
* Supervise the Community Archivist associated with the project
* Manage the relationship with Right to Redemption (R2R) and SCI Phoenix, including meeting regularly with the group
* Assist with the management of the Advisory Board and administrative tasks associated with its meetings
* Support overall direction of project and responds to challenges and opportunities as needed
* Serve as a member of the “Progress Despite Prison” project Steering Committee
Line of Report:The Project Manager reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship with a dual report to the Creative Director for the Graterford Archive Project.
Minimum Qualifications
* 3 years of project management experience
* 3 years of experience working with diverse system-impacted populations, including youth between the ages of 18 and 25
* Experience working on community-centered projects
* Demonstrated strengths with both developing new systems and working within existing rules and regulations in respect to finance, budgeting, and activities reporting
* Demonstrated capacity to manage budgets and reporting systems
* Experience working with diverse teams and networks to achieve shared goals
* Ability to work respectfully, cooperatively, and effectively with project partners, community stakeholders, and campus stakeholders
* Ability to work respectfully, cooperatively, and effectively with people experiencing loss, grief, and trauma as a result of their experiences with the carceral state
* Demonstrated ability to work in community, and to facilitate community stakeholder meetings and community centered events
* Demonstrated strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge of the carceral system and its history in the United States, particularly Pennsylvania
* Proficient in written and spoken Spanish
