University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust
This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring echocardiographer to join the large and forward-thinking team at UHNM. This role is principally to train in the field of echocardiography. The successful candidate will work with a designated mentor and follow an agreed training plan with the ultimate aim of gaining British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography. This will involve training on site at Royal Stoke Hospital, County Hospital, and the soon-to-open Community Diagnostic Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
Main Duties of the Job
Services provided at UHNM include routine inpatient and outpatient echocardiography in addition to advanced specialist echocardiography, such as transoesophageal echo, stress echo, bubble contrast echo, and grown-up congenital heart disease according to service need and/or preference. The department also provides one-stop specialist clinics in heart valve disease, heart failure, and inherited cardiac conditions. The broad range of diagnostics provided at this large tertiary cardiac centre make UHNM well placed to provide thorough and well-rounded training in cardiac ultrasound. The unit is home to the current chair of accreditation for the BSE, a regional representative, and two previous BSE elected trustees. We have a strong track record for teaching and training and developing advanced practitioners in the field of cardiac imaging.
The role will require a willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced, patient-facing specialty in cardiology. Applicants with experience in cardiac physiology will be encouraged to maintain their broad skill set throughout this training opportunity. There will also be opportunities to get involved in research and audit with the unit.
