Operations Manager All About the Role Reporting to the MD, we require an Operations Manager; in this key hands-on, management role you will be central to developing a customer-focused culture throughout the business, driving an ethos of continuous improvement. Ultimately, you’ll define and implement a strategy that maximises the output of assets in a safe and efficient manner across our Dragon Steel, Chester and Advanced Steel Services, Preston sites. Specific tasks include, but not limited to: Developing a “safety first” approach that ensures operations are conducted in manner which fully complies with our high standards of Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental processes. Leading the Operations Team to continually maximise our assets. Embedding a strong and sustainable culture of customer focus and continuous improvement through collaboration and teamwork. Working alongside HR colleagues to recruit, train and develop the site teams, managing performance and reward, maintaining engaged employees capable of meeting current and projected objectives. Formulating and managing the annual operational budget to secure the resources necessary to achieve business success. Ensure effective communication between operations, planning, and commercial functions to align customer demands with the constraints of operational capacity. Responsible for overseeing the transport operation at both sites Having a proactive and strategic mindset, recommending, and implementing improvements and developments. This is a hands-on role, where you will be based at Preston and travel to Chester around 2 times per week, although flexibility will be required All About You You will have the passion, drive, and confidence to work within the business in a collaborative, creative way. Essential Skills for the role: A safety focused attitude and experience of managing safety, quality, and group policies A hands-on style of management You’ll have demonstrable experience of managing an operational function with a proven track record of delivering results Excellent leadership and motivational skills, having the ability to engage and manage colleagues at all levels Health & Safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH with Lean experience Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements Results oriented with an ability to drive profitability in the short and longer terms Strong inter-personal skills, able to positively resolve issues and motivate the workforce Ideally steel industry experience, or similar heavy industry operations management experience.
