East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our current service within General Surgery & Gastroenterology at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for a Band 5 nurse to join our team to support acutely unwell surgical patients. We specialise in surgical and orthopaedic care; therefore, some basic knowledge is recommended, however, not essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical and professional skills and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. You will care for a variety of surgical and orthopaedic patients within the day and will be expected to be able to carry out nurse-led assessments of your patients and recognise a deteriorating patient. Acuity can change hourly, so it is important you are able to prioritise your workload effectively in order to keep yourselves and the patients safe.
You will also be required to assist your patients getting ready for theatre if they are required to have surgery and be able to care for them prior to their operation. You will be required to facilitate safe discharges if required and plan appropriate admissions to hospital.
About us
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families, and carers we care for every day.
Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK, you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country. We are only able to sponsor candidates on a Skilled Worker Visa applying for roles Band 5 and above.
