Stores Operative
Location: Letchworth Garden City
Contract: 3 Month Temporary to Permanent
Pay: £24k-26k per annum (£12.21-£13.33 per hour + holiday pay)
Shifts: Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 4:00pm (with overtime and weekend availability)
This company designs and manufactures automated machines that coat and harden lenses and glass, serving industries like optics, science, and luxury goods. Since the current owners took over in 2016, the business has grown steadily, expanding both its workforce and its market reach.
Key Responsibilities:
* Process incoming and outgoing goods accurately and in a timely manner.
* Pick, pack, and dispatch machine-related components to meet production schedules.
* Manage stock control, including conducting stock checks and making necessary adjustments.
* Handle returns and ensure they are processed quickly and correctly.
* Assist with Health & Safety practices and maintain cleanliness across the warehouse.
* Support cross-training of stores staff to cover various roles during absences.
* Plan staffing levels and ensure proper FLT training and regular checks.
* Provide reports on stock accuracy, picking accuracy, and order fulfillment efficiency.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Strong experience with stock management and use of systems like Sage (or similar).
* Forklift Truck (FLT) certification (refresher training can be provided).
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within a team.
* Experience with picking, packing, and shipping processes.
* A proactive attitude with a drive for career progression, with the potential to step into a Team Leader role in the future.
