Support Worker - Learning disability service
An opportunity has arisen to work at Cambeck Close supporting children & adults with a learning disability.
We require 1 full time (37.5 hrs) and 1 part time (30 hrs) per week support workers who will provide care and support to service users. This role provides an opportunity to develop skills and experience working alongside a dedicated team of professional staff, while also developing your own skills.
These roles will also provide support to the Senior Support Workers and will interlink with the Unit Manager, Administrator, and other professionals.
The role requires shift work days & nights, 7 days a week.
Main duties of the job
You will provide high quality care and support to people accessing the service. You will assist in the delivery of the model of care under the guidance of the Unit Manager and Senior Support Workers.
You will provide therapeutic support while maintaining the person's safety and dignity, which may involve working with those that have challenging behaviour.
You will assist in establishing care plans and in the delivery of care, working within the boundaries of agreed instruction, while being supported within Trust procedures and policies.
Job responsibilities
* Support and contribute to the development and maintenance of an environment defined by high quality care and support.
* Work as an assistant or co-worker in therapeutic activities and/or group work with the support and guidance of senior staff.
* Listen and talk to service users, families, and their carers, developing boundaried therapeutic relationships.
* Undertake and accurately document observations and clinical care in line with Trust Policy.
* Ensure effective communication, either verbal or written, amongst the team, reporting any change or unusual occurrence in the service users' behaviour or condition.
* Accurately report and feedback any concerns.
* Understand the importance of and maintain the need for confidentiality in all service users' matters.
* Participate in the maintenance of a clean, tidy, and safe environment.

* Ensure that any interventions are provided in accordance with least restrictive practice.

* Support the development and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
* Attend to personal hygiene including bathing, toileting, and dressing, promoting quality of life and independence.
* Support and assist at mealtimes as required.
* Attend education and training sessions specially arranged for the team.
* Carry out assigned tasks under the supervision of qualified staff.
* Provide guidance to new staff on the induction to the ward and participate in induction and training programmes for staff.
* Undertake support to new staff as appropriate, supporting them to complete their care certificate.
* Act as a positive role model to the service users and staff.
* Demonstrate appropriate de-escalation skills in managing aggression exhibited by service users, subject to achieving agreed training and competency in Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression techniques.
* Attend/undertake statutory and mandatory training as required.
* Have an interest in self-development and be active in enhancing personal knowledge.
* Escort service users as appropriate to areas outside the service as delegated.
* Adhere to appropriate Trust and local policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* NVQ level 3 in Care (or equivalent experience) or a commitment to work towards.
* Care Certificate or willing to work towards.
* Assessor in CC.
Experience
* Experience of working with Children and Young People.
* Experience of working with people with a learning disability and/or autism.
* Experience of providing care and support in a community setting and/or residential setting.
* Experience of carrying out observations.
* Experience of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression.
* Experience of working with people with a learning disability to enhance their quality of life.
* Experience of caring for others.
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of being involved in the delivery of therapeutic activities.
Knowledge
* Understanding of positive behavioral support.
* An awareness of stigma and discrimination of people with learning disabilities.
* Awareness of ward procedures and clinical observations.
Skills and Abilities
* Able to impart knowledge, supervise, and direct the work of others under supervision.
* Able to communicate effectively with clients and their carers.

* Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.

£24,071 to £25,674 a year, pro rata.
