Job Introduction
BBC World Service is an international news provider, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on digital, TV and radio. It reaches a weekly audience of around 364 million around the world, helping them make sense of the world we live in. BBC Kyrgyz was established in 1996 and provides multimedia content on BBC platforms and through linear TV, website and social media to our Kyrgyz speaking audiences in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia and across the world.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide editorial and managerial leadership for BBC News Kyrgyz teams in London and overseas, ensuring that the service remains the point of reference in international, local and regional news, through the publication of first-rate, creative content relevant to the target audience.
Main Duties Will Include
* Using editorial judgement, creativity and managerial skills to lead the BBC News Kyrgyz output and effectively communicate the service’s strategy to all staff.
* Responsible for building team spirit within new or existing teams; ensuring the best use of individual skills; encouraging team members to think about potential improvements.
* In consultation with the senior leadership team, the News Editor will implement the overall strategy for BBC News Kyrgyz in line with the objectives of the World Service.
* Maximise best editorial practice and collaboration between Content production and Output areas within International Services and the wider News Division.
* Set team and individual objectives, as well as clear expectations about required performance levels, rewards success and addresses performance issues promptly and fairly.
* Liaise closely and constructively with other departments in BBC News.
* Provide advice to other BBC departments on Kyrgyz and Central Asia current affairs.
* Editorially responsible for all the content produced for linear TV and published on the website and on social media platforms.
Are you the right candidate?
* Fluency in both written and spoken Kyrgyz as first language or equivalent and excellent English.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Kyrgyz / Central Asia affairs and the ability to lead the production of impactful original TV and digital content.
* Ability to translate organization and department goals into action plans and lead the team to deliver on those goals.
* In-depth knowledge of data analytics and experience of using it to shape the content and meet the audience needs.
* Track record of commissioning, producing and delivering high-quality impactful content.
* Able to demonstrate an innovative and creative way of looking at stories.
* Proven experience of staff management, motivation and appropriate deployment of staff.
* Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for developments in digital platforms.
* An extended network of contacts from community leaders to lawmakers would be desirable.
