What You'll Be Doing
The purpose of the Microbiological/ Materials Lab Technician role is to assist with the daily operation of the Rayner microbiological test laboratory. The role will include hands-on chemical, bioburden, and endotoxin testing and reporting on raw materials, products, environmental, and water samples to support manufacturing and product release activities. The position includes the manufacturing of batches of liquid raw material for the flow of manufacture within the business. This will involve weighing and technical handling of organic chemical compounds and chemical analysis. The position shall also support Rayner's business objectives, corporate policies, and world-class manufacturing.
Microbiology:
1. Assisting with the daily operations within the microbiological test laboratory to ensure the timely processing of samples to support manufacturing throughput
2. Adhering to microbiology and chemistry test methods, specifications, and SOPs
3. Managing consumables, reagents, standards, cultures, and control samples
4. Managing data entry and output from LIMS
5. Review of test certificates
6. Receipt, storage, and preparation of samples
7. Performing chemical, bioburden, and endotoxin testing and reporting of raw material, product, and environmental samples as required
8. Processing samples for external testing
9. Reporting any invalid testing or deviations from expected results or documented procedures to line manager
10. Cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
11. Preparing and maintaining reagents, standards, cultures, and control samples
12. Working to established laboratory practice in accordance with GMP/GLP
Manufacturing:
1. Accurately weighing chemicals
2. Mixing large quantities of chemicals together (liquids and solids) (max 2 litres)
3. Cleaning equipment after production of batches
4. Cleaning the lab, taking out bins
5. Adhering to chemical and lab safety requirements
6. Maintaining accurate records
7. Running lab equipment, including reporting equipment faults
8. Storage of raw materials and finished stock
9. Chemical analysis (training will be provided) e.g. HPLC, FTIR
What Experience & Skills Do You Need
1. Experience in a microbiology laboratory role within the food, consumer, pharmaceutical, or medical device industry
2. Degree, equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience in a science, clinical, or engineering background
3. Excellent computer literacy with good knowledge of MS Office
4. Technical laboratory experience such as weighing and measuring chemicals
5. Working knowledge of LIMS
6. Experience with chemical synthesis and chemical analysis
