We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Consultant Radiologists to work within a cohesive and supportive team, to provide a quality service in our Radiology department.
They would join a team of Consultant Radiologists to provide high quality diagnostic imaging service across Gateshead. The focus is very much on teamwork and we pride ourselves on the quality services we deliver. We have a full complement of radiographers, sonographers, and nurses who work alongside the consultant team. Our strategy is one of growth and development both of our team in terms of new roles and advanced practice and in new scanners to support the latest techniques.
We provide a comprehensive range of acute services and are a Cancer Centre for different cancer types such as lung and bowel. We are also the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre.
The appointees will have relevant general cross-sectional imaging experience to face the challenges of the post and the specialist interests required. They will be a resilient, team player who wishes to join a department that is cohesive, friendly, and hard-working. Applicants are also required to hold the FRCR.
The department has a strong tradition of teaching and is affiliated to the Northern Deanery Radiology Training Scheme. There are usually 3-5 trainees in the department at any one time and the attachments are very popular, and Consultants in the region are actively encouraged to contribute to this.
Main duties of the job
The applicant will have general radiology duties at Queen Elizabeth Hospital with the opportunity to work flexibly from home or at our Community Diagnostic Centre. They would be expected to undertake the following (which is not an exhaustive list):
1. Contribute to the team of radiologists, participating in acute and outpatient reporting including any relevant subspecialty work.
2. Actively contribute to the multi-professional team working in the department demonstrating a firm commitment to respect and include all disciplines and roles within the service.
3. Participate in and contribute to the appropriate clinical and educational activities of the Radiology Department.
4. Participate in the teaching, regular audit, and managerial activities of the Radiology department.
5. Contribute to the MDT work within their subspecialist interest.
6. Work flexibly within the team in order to provide a high-quality service.
7. Be committed to continuing professional development to assist in furthering themselves and the department.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
* Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
* Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
* FRCR
Clinical experience and effectiveness
* Appropriate specialised training in Radiology
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
* Evidence of participation in multidisciplinary teamwork
* Leadership skills e.g. supervision of junior colleagues
* Meet the requirements of the GMC's Good Medical Practice
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit
* Understanding of clinical governance and readiness to accept and acknowledge the responsibility it implies
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
