Main duties of the job:
The post holder is a clinical lead in acute nutrition support based in Prince Charles Hospital. This post will focus on delivering a quality, evidence-based specialist nutrition support dietetic service to patients within the Health Board Area.
To work autonomously managing a specialist complex and varied caseload of patients with complex nutrition support needs in addition to different clinical conditions, including stroke, complex surgery, and gastroenterology, identifying, planning, and delivering highly specialist dietetic interventions demonstrating expertise in this area of clinical specialty.
To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by the use of evidence-based outcomes.
Lead on specific clinical audit/research projects within the area of specialty.
To provide leadership for junior staff and support staff and contribute to their development, as a delegated supervisor, and undertake annual performance review of junior staff.
To be a lead student trainer, responsible for the coordination and development of training programmes as well as providing direct training to students.
To work in collaboration with ward multidisciplinary teams, identifying service improvements and taking forward developments in line with the dietetic annual plan and strategic developments of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Annex 21:
This is a training and development role under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.
The Highly Specialist Dietician will be required to undertake up to a 36-month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain the Masters Degree qualification OR completion of complex nutrition support competencies and post-registration experience to Masters equivalency.
Completion of the qualification/competencies is a requirement of the contract of employment.
During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows:
Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 65% of the top of Band 7 pay scale,
Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 7 pay scale,
Months 25-36 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 7 pay scale.
Upon successful attainment of the qualifications/competencies and experience listed above, even if sooner than the 36-month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the bottom of the Band 7 pay scale (without financial detriment), as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Job Description as indicated.
NOTE: There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff, it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 7, again without financial detriment.

Qualifications/Knowledge:
Essential:
* BSc. Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
* Evidence of clinical supervision.
* Evidence of or qualification in research and audit.
* Health and Care Professions Council registration (HCPC).
* Evidence of professional development.
* Relevant post-registration training.
* Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.
* Detailed specialist clinical knowledge of acute nutrition support including oral, enteral, and parental feeding routes.
* MSc or its equivalent level of knowledge and advanced post-graduate training/experience in specialist clinical dietetics.
* Knowledge of audit and research and its application to acute nutrition support.
* Knowledge of health and safety and clinical governance.
* Knowledge of health issues affecting the local population and strategies in place to support improvement in these areas.
Desirable:
* Clinical Educators Course.

Experience:

* Clinical experience in specialist acute nutrition support at a senior level.
