Description Role: Young Persons Practitioner Salary: £25,900 per annum Location: Cardiff Contract: Secondment until 31 March 2025 with potential to be extended. A bit about the Service Our unique service based in Cardiff offers support for young people who are the victims of serious violence and at risk of criminal exploitation aged between 11 and 18 years old. We provide targeted intensive 1:1 support, group work and diversionary activities to help equip the child or young person with the necessary skills and tools to make positive choices. We also help young people to re-engage and sustain education, training, or employment and reduce the risk of involvement with criminal exploitation. As part of our work, we aim to identify and support young people to overcome personal and practical barriers that prevent them from making positive lifestyle choices. It is imperative we work alongside the family and wider support networks to provide support and address vulnerabilities. As a Young Persons Practitioner, you'll need to have a keen eye for detail, be able to read between the lines and be sensitive to the needs of the young people we work with, working discreetly and building trust at their pace. You'll need to be able to develop positive working relationships with young people and families who can be hard to reach. You'll work as part of a small but supportive and dynamic team, with regular supervision provided. As part of your role, we will support you to develop and provide a wide range of training opportunities for you, including some of our award-winning programmes. How you'll help to create brighter futures Providing a first-class service to young people based on an assessment of need Delivering specialist interventions with children, young people or families on a 1:1 basis, group or community setting Engage young people in diversionary activities based on their interests Build positive working relationships and role modelling. Providing lead case/care planning management, including undertaking assessment, reviewing and managing risks. Representing the service in community organisations, partner agencies and other external agencies. Retaining accurate records, using various IT systems to capture information and to produce written reports and present these as necessary Supporting as an appropriate adult when a young person is in custody, if required Acting as a young person advocate in your work Let's talk about you Our job description for the Young Persons Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are: Be able to Build and sustain positive relationships, acting as a positive role model, using their own experiences to challenge negative and criminal behaviours while promoting positive choice and development. Experience of working with young people with complex support needs, and ideally those within the youth justice system and multi-agency social care setting. Experience of case handling in relation to children and young people An understanding of assessments, care planning and reviews and a willingness to develop skills in this area. A positive and non-judgemental attitude to young people in conflict with the law Excellent communication skills, adapting your delivery to each individual young person. Safeguarding knowledge and able to work confidentially with a sensitive approach A knowledge and expertise on how best to work with vulnerable young people and in partnership with the other agencies involved in their support. Understanding of Criminal Exploitation and the impact of this upon young people. Resilience and understanding when dealing with challenging young people and have a non-judgemental approach. Flexibly around service users' needs You'll need to be able to drive to transport our young people to appointments or activities. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
