This is a rotational post in a busy purpose-built Deanesly Cancer Centre Wolverhampton, covering all aspects of radiotherapy physics specialty and further training will be provided in external beam treatment planning, brachytherapy, dosimetry, and machine QA.
Applicants should be HCPC Registered Clinical Scientists or expected to complete their registration by autumn 2025.

We are a dedicated and experienced, diverse team, working together to provide the highest standard of radiotherapy physics support. We have an excellent working relationship with the wider MDT locally as well as close collaboration amongst the radiotherapy centres within the region, headed by the West Midlands Cancer Alliance.
The department equipment includes 4 Elekta Versa HD linear accelerators with IGRT, VMAT, FFF and EPID dosimetry capability. There are two wide bore 4D CT scanners, Xstrahl orthovoltage and Flexitron HDR.
Supporting software currently includes Pinnacle TPS, Raystation TPS (to be Commissioned), Mosaiq Record and Verify system, Prosoma Virtual Simulator, Oncentra Masterplan Brachytherapy TPS, and Sun Nuclear ArcCHECK verification system. ProsomaCore and IMSure secondary MU check software.
Main duties of the job
To provide support to all aspects of work in the Radiotherapy Physics Group covering radiotherapy treatment planning and checking, treatment machine calibrations, quality assurance procedures and carrying out dosimetry inter-comparisons to the relevant standard. Be familiar with radiotherapy imaging, specialised software packages and their uses. Assist with the commissioning of new radiotherapy equipment and the development of new techniques. Job holder is expected to rotate between treatment planning, dosimetry and Machine QA. At all times maintain high standards and safe practices as applicable to radiotherapy and participate in research and development.

Job responsibilities
1. To participate in all aspects of external beam treatment planning, brachytherapy, and other dosimetry calculations including orthovoltage treatments.
2. To carry out dosimetry measurements on radiotherapy treatment machines to a high degree of accuracy with suitable equipment including patient specific QA and at times may require working outside normal working hours.
3. To carry out quality assurance procedures on radiotherapy treatment machines and treatment planning systems, and to participate in the development of procedures in line with developing techniques and recommendations.
4. To assist with interdepartmental audits and intercomparisons.
5. To be involved with radiotherapy physics related development work, commissioning of new treatment equipment, beam data collection and treatment verification.
6. To ensure that all checking procedures, written records, etc which are required are completed promptly, accurately, and properly.
7. To provide specialist technical & scientific support to active projects within radiotherapy physics section including application/software development.
8. To assist with the development of Radiotherapy physics Quality management system.
9. To be fully aware of relevant scientific and technical developments and legislation in the field attending or participating in such conferences, seminars, etc as may be appropriate and agreed.
10. To use personal initiative in the completion of tasks associated with the Radiotherapy Physics service.
11. To be aware of governance and risk management issues within the department.
12. To carry out relevant administrative procedures which may be appropriate as part of the service.
13. To undertake other duties that may be appropriate in order to meet the needs of the service.
14. To participate in a relevant CPD scheme.
15. This job description may be reviewed periodically in the light of developing work requirements. The physicist will be expected to contribute towards that review.
16. To comply with the Department and the Trust mandatory training requirements.
