Westmount Dental is a group of mixed private and NHS practices also providing private care based in the North East of England. We are looking for a dedicated Self Employed Dental Therapist/Hygienist to join our busy team at our Sunderland site part time Monday to Friday over 3 days per week.
Due to recent expansion and a total premises refurb, you can expect a state-of-the-art environment providing clinical support to our clinicians. You will be fully supported by our dental team and strong senior management structure. Job Summary
To provide the highest quality hygiene/therapy treatments for patients. To help prevent dental decay by cleaning patients’ teeth and providing them with education on how to care effectively for their teeth and gums and the effects of diet on oral health. The dental therapist/hygienist will be expected to work with minimum supervision, using their own initiative, and carry out duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the practice and so aid the dental staff to maximise the use of their time.
Clinical Duties
1. Providing dental health education about tooth care and diet;
2. Record indices, recognise and monitor disease;
3. Monitor periodontal disease by using current indices;
4. Monitor plaque scores and provide oral hygiene advice;
5. Carry out treatment according to the dentist’s written prescription;
6. Treat patients according to the practice appointment scheduling system;
7. Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practice’s health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers' instructions;
8. Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order;
9. Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed;
10. Ensure the welfare of all patients;
11. Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc;
12. Develop a home care plan for individual patients to maintain oral health;
13. Perform non-surgical periodontal therapy including supra and sub gingival scaling, comprehensive root surface debridement which may involve the use of local infiltration analgesia together with the placing of antimicrobial agents when necessary;
14. Give specific preventative advice including nutritional guidance, smoking cessation etc;
15. Replace crowns dislodged during treatment with a temporary cement;
16. Take impressions;
17. Administer local anaesthetic;
18. Removing plaque and calculus by scaling and polishing teeth;
19. Applying prophylactic/antibacterial materials, fissure sealants and topical fluorides to help prevent tooth decay;
20. Carrying out screening and monitoring procedures;
21. Treating and helping to prevent gum disease;
22. Ensuring that sterile conditions are maintained;
23. Offering advice and encouragement to patients;
24. Working closely with and under the instruction of dentists;
25. Using a range of dental instruments;
26. Keeping up-to-date with new developments within the profession maintaining patient dental records.
