Description
Wychem, an Ascensus Specialties Company, is excited to announce the Development Chemist position where you will have the ability to join a small and thriving team with a global footprint. The Development Chemist plays an essential role to the Company's production process and systems. As part of this, the Development Chemist will liaise closely with Quality Control (QC), Research & Development (R&D), and Production Teams.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
* Perform distillations and support the Director of Operations, R&D Lead, and QC Lead in problem-solving and troubleshooting.
* Undertake development projects to facilitate the scale-up of research-scale processes to production scale.
* Assist the Director of Operations in the daily management of the distillation room.
* Support Research and Development in process development activities.
Compliance & Documentation:
* Ensure adherence to the company's QC system, policies, SOPs, and WIs.
* Accurately record results using the company's ERP system and maintain the record database.
* Review and verify technical documentation, SOPs, WIs, and policies.
* Complete all relevant paperwork.
Communication & Collaboration:
* Maintain open and professional communication regarding development and distillation timelines.
* Collaborate effectively with other departments to meet work priorities and client expectations.
* Establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, visitors, contractors, and clients.
* Communicate clearly with employees, auditors, suppliers, and clients to ensure Operations and R&D requirements are understood and met in a timely manner.
Health & Safety:
* Prioritize the safety and well-being of yourself and others, ensuring compliance with company procedures.
* Maintain a safe working environment in the Development laboratory.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Be willing to work additional hours when requested by management, although this is not typically required.
* Undertake other related tasks as directed by the Director of Operations.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum Qualifications
* A degree in Chemistry, preferably in Organic Chemistry or equivalent industry experience.
* Ability to communicate in English, both in written and verbal form.
* An understanding of analytical techniques and operation of GC, HPLC, FITR, KF and titrations would be of benefit.
* An excellent working knowledge of Office 365, Word and Excel.
* An understanding of the dangers in working with and around potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience working within the fine chemical or pharmaceutical manufacture, prefabably to include the operation of stills, distallations and small scale fine chemical manufacture.
* Proven track record of problem solving and troubleshooting within a fine chemical production environment.
