Head Of Services at The Boathouse Youth Charity
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Head of Operations to join our Strategic Leadership Team whose skills can drive forward, develop and oversee our Operations Department which underpins the delivery of our Youth Work. This means ensuring we are legally compliant in all areas including Facilities Management, Data protection, Human Resource and Administration, as well as creating a more sustainable and eco-friendly working environment.
This is a newly created leadership role aimed at leading, developing and coordinating our support services across the charity. The role is designed to ensure that The Boathouse Youth runs smoothly and efficiently across all operational areas.
This includes day-to-day leadership and management, organisation, administration of staff and resources as well as any other responsibilities as directed by other senior colleagues in their absence.
You will be responsible for the management of buildings, vehicles, equipment, compliance, IT and sustainability, ensuring that we remain legally compliant and operationally effective.
You will lead and support a small team, working closely with colleagues across the charity, particularly our Finance Team and Youth Services Team, to ensure our organisation is well-run and fit for purpose.
Outline of Overall Responsibilities:
1. Participate as a member of the charity's Strategic Leadership Team having an active role in strategic planning, decision making and development of the organisation.
2. Provide leadership and line management to the Operational Management Team currently comprising an Administration Manager and Facilities and Resources Manager.
3. Have overall responsibility and accountability for the systems and general management of the charity’s administrative systems to ensure service coordination and operational effectiveness.
4. Have overall responsibility for the charity’s facilities and resources including maintenance and efficient use of the premises, vehicles and equipment.
5. Be accountable for risk management across the charity including Health and Safety, Security and Safeguarding.
6. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the charity’s policies, procedures and processes aligning with the legal, ethic and social contexts.
7. Be responsible for the charity’s function around all areas of Human Resources.
8. Be the strategic lead on projects and areas of work such as business planning and continuity.
Experience:
1. Substantial experience of charity or business leadership and personnel.
2. Substantial experience of leading and managing staff.
3. Substantial experience in strategic and operational management at a senior level.
4. Considerable experience of providing a business support service across a range of disciplines.
5. Considerable experience of management of buildings.
6. Considerable experience of managing budgets and procurement.
Knowledge:
1. All aspects of business management including human resources, procurement, facilities management, compliance and marketing.
2. Strategic planning and development.
3. Substantial knowledge of legalities and guidance relating to risk management and statutory charitable policy.
Skills:
1. Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience line-managing staff.
2. Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
3. Ability to work strategically while also being hands-on when needed.
4. A proactive, solutions-focused approach to challenges.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualification:
Degree or equivalent in a relevant area (e.g., Business / Charity Management).
