The Estate’s development department comprises of a small team of full-time designers and project managers who are responsible for delivering all capital investment projects for the business. These diverse projects include the construction of new buildings, gardens, landscapes, exhibitions as well as renovations or improvements to existing facilities. Due to the continued growth and expansion and with an increased pipeline of work, we are looking to further strengthen our development team with the appointment of an experienced Estates Quantity Surveyor. Reporting directly to the Director of Developments, the dedicated in-house Estates Quantity Surveyor will work alongside project managers across the full range of our diverse development projects ranging from £300k to £25m in value. Opportunity to work for an award-winning Somerset company Exceptional working environment Champions of innovation, quality, and design Operating with an entrepreneurial, forward-looking approach Opportunity to work on a diverse range of exciting projects – no two projects will be the same We recognise, nurture and reward our talented people Key role objectives: To improve and uphold our cost control processes To help deliver better value for money To reduce actual costs wherever possible To help protect our business against financial risk To analyse our performance and promote continual improvement Qualifications/Skills: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or equivalent Cost engineering experience; working experience in the construction sector Demonstrated experience balancing and organizing multiple project or assignments Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and collaborate with employer, colleagues, project team consultants and contractors/suppliers Strong written and verbal communication skills Responsibilities include: Establish regular high level project cost reporting across all development projects for presentation within the business Work across all of our various projects to establish and uphold best cost control processes for each project to ensure that we deliver each development within its target budget Work together with the consultant Project QS where one has been appointed and in other cases, for smaller jobs, perform the role of PQS yourself Interrogate monthly cost reports, applications and variations etc to identify any issues, errors or trends and report to project managers accordingly Instigate and lead a thorough value engineering exercise at the key stage of every project Support project managers and advise on the best procurement routes for each new project in order to achieve best value for money Oversee and assist consultant PQS with tenders to ensure rigorous processes are followed as well as obtaining quotes/undertaking tender processes directly yourself, in some cases Assist project managers with choosing and drawing up appropriate contracts Negotiate significant purchases/terms directly with suppliers Interrogate key suppliers and contractors financially to protect our business against risk Work with Director of Developments to do longer term cost planning and project budgeting Coordinate and lead post completion project reviews to assess performance and identify learning points Liaise internally with the Head of Finance and the finance department regarding cashflow, supplier issues, payments etc Support project managers with the administration of day-to-day projects invoicing and purchasing What about the benefits package: Salary up to £60,000 per annum (depending on experience) Bonus up to 15% of salary assessed on personal performance 45p per mile business mileage Company pension 22 Days Holiday plus bank holidays Extensive choice of company and lifestyle benefits Please contact Jamie Ttophi at jamiettophicrestrecruitment.com or on 07961 417881 for further information.
