Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – 1:1 Behaviour Specialist, SEND School Support Staff (Primary Aged Child)
Location: Between Horsham and Billingshurst
Salary: £140 - £160 per day
Requirements: Driver’s license required (rural location not accessible by public transport)
Job Type: Tuesday - Friday, term time only, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm; Mondays finish at 5:00 pm
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent - 12 working weeks to perm contract.
We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a focus on 1:1 support for a primary-aged boy with challenging behaviour to join a progressive SEND school between Billingshurst and Horsham. This role primarily involves working closely with this student, providing targeted support to aid his development and manage behaviour. The role may include occasional support in classroom settings as needed. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a rewarding, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* 1:1 Support: Work directly with a primary-aged boy with challenging behaviour, fostering engagement, supporting his emotional and educational development, and managing behaviour effectively.
* Behaviour Management: Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies in line with school policies to support challenging behaviours.
* Collaborative Planning: Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to create and implement personalised learning plans tailored to the child’s specific needs.
* Social and Emotional Development: Assist in the social and emotional development of the student, promoting positive mental health and well-being.
* Safe and Inclusive Environment: Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment, and address safeguarding concerns promptly.
What We Are Looking For:
* Qualifications: HLTA status or significant experience in a similar SEND or behavioural support 1:1 role.
* 1:1 and Behavioural Support Experience: Proven experience working 1:1 with children with SEND, particularly those with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
* Skills in Behaviour Management: A resilient, patient, and compassionate approach with strong skills in managing challenging behaviour.
* Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and teamwork skills, capable of building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and external professionals.
* Flexibility and Proactivity: A flexible, proactive attitude with a willingness to adapt and respond to changing situations in the classroom.
