Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) is a registered charity that provides rescue, medical care and rehabilitation to sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife as well as public education about wildlife issues. TWC is the busiest wildlife centre in Canada, admitting approximately 6,000 patients annually, with more than 300 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians represented.
Job Summary
Toronto Wildlife Centre is looking for a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work with over 300 native Ontario species in a fully accredited veterinary hospital with full-time wildlife veterinary staff. This role combines wildlife medicine and wildlife rehabilitation and will have you involved with all aspects of animal care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assisting with animal triage and admissions
* Diagnostic imaging and lab work
* Veterinary nursing care
* Assisting with surgical and medical procedures, including anesthetic monitoring
* Hospital maintenance
* Maintaining medical records
* Coordinating patient daily care
* Developing rehabilitation plans
* Other duties as required
Experience and Qualifications:
* Registered veterinary technician (RVT)
* Ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years clinical experience
* Previous work with zoo, wildlife or exotics is an asset, although not required
* Passion for wildlife medicine and conservation
* Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
* Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Rabies vaccinated with a current titre
* Available to work rotating weekends and holidays
Working Conditions:
* Fast-paced office/hospital environment, with noise and the possibility of frequent interruptions
* This position requires working near materials and animals that may trigger allergic reactions
* Hours/shifts will fluctuate depending on job demands and includes shift work that includes weekends, early evenings and statutory holidays
