Job Description
This is an exciting new role which allows the post holder to maintain their clinical skills while developing radiotherapy trials and research for the trust. We are looking for a self motivated therapeutic radiographer to join the research team and expand our trials portfolio namely; PACE-NODES, BRIOChe, HIT-Miso, ATNEC, STAMPEDE2 & TOURIST.
In the research role you will lead, coordinate and deliver clinical trial activity within PHU, review trial protocols, identify and screen patients for trial suitability and provide specialist information to patients taking part in clinical trials. Furthermore, you will be an advocate for research, acting as a patient point of contact where excellent communication and organisational skills are essential.
Within radiotherapy, we have four TrueBeam 3.0 linear accelerators which include advanced IGRT imaging such as online 4DCBCT, iCBCT and triggered imaging. 6DOF couches are in use for H+N, upper GI and Lung SABR patients, alongside abdomen compression immobilisation. We have a wide-bore Siemens GOSIM CT scanner alongside Brachytherapy, Orthovoltage and on-treatment review services. All of our systems are linked together using ARIA V15.6 and are a completely paperless department.
We have recently increased our SABR offering for oligometastases and prostate cancer via the PACE Nodes trial. In Dosimetry, we have recently moved to Raystation planning system and routinely use AI auto-contouring software to make planning more efficient. Future projects include the installing of SGRT to move towards tattoo-less setups and increasing the number of radiotherapy trials we participate in.
The team at PHU are committed to your development, sending representation to all the major conferences and supporting academic study in order to progress in your career. We have well established monthly clinical supervision at all levels and more recently have created a radiographer staff committee. The committee has helped drive the implementation of flexible working across the whole department where we now offer 7.5 hr or 9.5 hr shifts over 2-5 days per week.
We have trained 3 Consultant Radiographers in Breast/Urology/Palliative who work very closely with the research team. We have a number of apprentice radiographer undergraduate and postgraduate roles in post and have recently invested in enhanced practice roles supporting progression from graduate all the way to consultant radiographer or lead radiographer.
We would love to welcome an experienced, senior therapeutic radiographer to join our team, allocating approximately 50% of the role for research and 50% in radiotherapy treatment or pre-treatment on a full time or part time basis. You will find a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-thinking department, who won the Society of Radiographers Regional South East Team of the Year 2023.
