This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week. This is an 18-month fixed term / secondment opportunity.
We are excited to be hiring a Youth Engagement Officer to join our fantastic team. This role is contractually based at Service Headquarters, Reigate, with expectation and opportunity for agile working, including working from a variety of locations, such as other SCC offices, fire stations or from home. You will report to the Youth Engagement Manager and be part of the Children and Young People Team.
At Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, we are putting prevention at the heart of our Service, and we are looking for a Youth Engagement Officer who is ready for the challenge of positively engaging with young people in our communities who need more support and opportunities; helping identified young people to improve their personal resilience and achievement through practical interventions and supporting them to achieve a qualification and improve their futures.

About the Role
Are you able to engage with young people and empower them to make positive life choices? Are you confident, approachable, and a great communicator? Would you like to use these skills in a Fire Service setting?
We are looking for someone who can support and deliver our new RISE Programme (Resilience, Inspire, Skills, Empower) and help to drive it forward with the Firewise Scheme as well as shaping and delivering other youth engagement activities. You will work in line with the NFCC's Early Intervention framework and The King's Trust requirements for the Developing Resilience accreditation.
You will ensure that children and young people are safeguarded at all times, following and implementing Service Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and practices, alongside promoting and delivering youth work practice that is pro-social, restorative, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and develops protective factors.
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
* Ability to build rapport with young people and their families as well as with Service managers, personnel, and with partner agencies in Surrey
* Suitable youth work or teaching qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience, know how children and young people learn, and have an awareness of protective factors, trauma-informed, restorative, and pro-social practices
* Experience of coordinating people, delivering activities to young people, and evaluating the outcomes or can evidence the potential to do so
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport and relationships and influence personnel across many levels, in a range of environments, and have the ability to use information technology effectively, including databases, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office 365.
On appointment, you will receive a full induction to the role and have access to regular supervision and continuous professional development (CPD). You will be provided with a service laptop and mobile phone to allow for flexible and agile working.
