Job Summary: We are seeking compassionate and caring professionals to provide basic care to all service users within the NHS and other care settings under the direction of the Registered Manager. Our Healthcare Assistants help nurses and doctors at various hospitals by offering the highest standards of personal care and support to patients. You will be expected to participate in a full range of activities to meet the emotional, psychological, and social needs of the service users and to assist in the provision of high-standard individualized care, under the supervision of the registered nurse/practitioner and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
1. Encourage independence in service users within the scope of their individual needs.
2. Provide personal care as appropriate to service user’s needs.
3. Maintain the high standard of care with regards to service user’s personal rooms and property.
4. Support service users and their relatives with their needs.
5. Report to the Registered Manager any changes to the service user’s condition.
6. Facilitate clear communication channels.
7. Use resources economically in appropriate ways.
8. Maintain accurate records.
9. Ensure correct and safe use of equipment, adhering to the Health & Safety guidelines.
10. Report defects of equipment to the Manager.
11. Work within approved guidelines, procedures, and policies of the care setting.
12. Attend statutory training sessions and those designed to assist in your personal development.
13. Pursue NVQ training where possible.
14. Assist in activities for the service users.
15. Wash and dress patients and aid in their personal hygiene.
16. Assist patients to access and use toilet facilities.
17. Serve meals and help to feed patients.
18. Help patients to safely move around.
19. Assist with bed making, cleaning tasks, errands, or general duties.
20. Collect pathological specimens (e.g., urine, faeces, sputum).
21. Make patients and their families feel comfortable.
22. Monitor and report patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight measurements.

To cooperate with Management in meeting its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent additions. Any failure to take such care or any contravention of safety policy or managerial instructions may result in disciplinary action being taken.

Variation: This job description is not exhaustive and may be reviewed or changed with the job holder according to the needs of the care setting and requirements of the service users.
Job Type: We consider both Part-Time and Full-Time applications, but you MUST be able to work a variety of shifts and days of the week as UHS operates a 24-hour service, 365 days of the year. Unfortunately, we cannot offer set days or set shifts (e.g., nights only).
Experience: Care Assistant: 1 year (Required).
Desirable: Experience in an acute hospital setting, HCA experience, volunteer sector, teaching assistant, nursing home carer, and understanding of the acute hospital environment and the role of HCA.
Personal Qualities: Essential: Ability to cope with fluctuating demands and pressures of the role, good interpersonal skills, ability to deal with a range of difficult situations, empathy, patience, dependability, and motivation.
Special Requirements: Essential: Able to cover a full range of shifts required for the role.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
