Job Description
This is a part-time post, and the salary will be pro-rata to the number of hours worked.
A vacancy has arisen for a social worker within the Young People In Mind (YPIM) team based within the Vale of Leven General Hospital, Alexandria. The YPIM team provides a service for all children 0-21 years old who are looked after or accommodated by West Dunbartonshire Council and/or young people who are vulnerable to homelessness.
As part of the team, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload within a specialist community outpatient setting. Working within the YPIM service, you will provide a service in West Dunbartonshire HSCP for young people who are care experienced and who may have moderate to severe psychiatric disorders and neuro-developmental disorders, including those whose vulnerability and mental health is impacting negatively on most areas of their life.
The service exists to improve access to mental health support for children and young people in foster families and residential houses in West Dunbartonshire and includes external providers. This includes those young people who are homeless, living in supported accommodation, or at risk of becoming homeless.
The primary aim of the service is to offer advice, training, and consultation to the networks around our children and young people; however, a proportion of young people will require direct psychological support. YPIM offers one-to-one psychological assessment and intervention to children and young people on an individual basis, including but not exclusively low mood, anxiety, self-harm, emotional regulation, and attachment/trauma.
We are looking for candidates who are SSSC registered and who have relevant post-registration experience of working with children and/or young people and their professional networks, with a range of mental health and neuro-developmental difficulties. You should be able to work independently using your own initiative and work closely with the existing members of the YPIM team to allow for smooth transitions for this vulnerable client group. You will have excellent communication skills and a full current driving licence.
You will assist in the development and running of training and promote links with various agencies involved in providing a package of care to this vulnerable population.
Requirements
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, and as such, membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
Responsibilities
The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment, any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
