Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our department for a housekeeper post to work alongside our clinical team helping us to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our patients. The post will require the applicant to work on Ward 2 at Weston Park Hospital.
You will be assisting the Nursing team to provide high quality of care to our patients by ensuring that:
* Patients are cared for in a well maintained environment which is safe, welcoming, comfortable, and reassuring.
* There is a high standard of cleanliness.
* Patients are provided with good quality food and drinks, where appropriate.
* All equipment is in good working order.
* There is enough clean linen to meet patient needs.
* Patients are cared for in an environment that minimises the risk of cross infection.
* Effective communication is used to ensure continuity of patient care.
* Patients are assured that the care environment complies with health and safety regulations.
* Patients are confident that supplies are available at all times.
* Complete Patient property lists.
* Patients' privacy and dignity are respected at all times.
* Patients and carers receive a level of customer care relevant to their needs.
Main duties of the job
* Clean and tidy bed areas, including beds and equipment, at least once per shift and always following patient discharge.
* In conjunction with domestic staff, ensure that the cleanliness of the ward and staff areas meet the standards set by Matron / Senior Sister.
* Liaise with the catering department or dietician as and when appropriate.
* Ensure all faulty equipment is decontaminated and relevant documentation completed before being sent for repair.
* Ensure adequate supplies of clean linen are available and that stock levels are maintained as required.
* Respect patients’ privacy and dignity at all times.
* Participate in the provision of a level of customer care, relevant to the needs of patients and carers.
* Contribute to the promotion of a safe working environment and participate in Moving and Handling including patient movement and movement of patients in beds, Food Hygiene, Waste Management, and Fire Safety practices.
* In conjunction with the ward staff, contribute to the reduction of hospital-acquired infection by ensuring that all infection control standards for ward and personal hygiene are maintained.

Qualifications
* GCSE Maths & English Grade 4/C or equivalent experience/qualifications
* Clerical/IT qualification or relevant experience
Experience
* A particular interest in working in an Oncology environment
* Experience of working in a hospital environment fulfilling domestic or housekeeper duties
* Experience of working in a customer service environment with the public
* Demonstrable ability to use a computer
* Manual handling, Infection control, Fire safety, Health and Safety Awareness, Food hygiene Training (can be completed once in post)
* Experience in a caring or hotel/catering environment
* Ability to communicate well within a multidisciplinary team
* Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace
* Excellent organisational skills
* Ability to prioritise own workload
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Willing to complete job specific and essential training relevant to the housekeeper role
