West London Chorus sings a variety of choral music from the 16th century to music by living composers, and is committed to achieving the highest musical standards in a relaxed and social environment. The choir has an auditioned membership of about 90 singers drawn from the London area.
The scholarship is ideal for aspiring and young professional singers who wish to develop their choral singing, sight-reading and musicianship skills. It is open to singers aged 18-35, or students in full or part time music education.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. attend a minimum of 75% of weekly rehearsals, providing confident and skilled support. Further missed rehearsals are subject to agreement with our MD and may result in a reduced stipend for the term. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings 7:45-9:45pm in term time, currently at St Michael's Church Elmwood Road W4 3DZ.
2. attend all concerts during the year.
3. participate in other musical events in the choir calendar where able.
4. take an active role with social media for the ensemble.
5. prepare for rehearsals in order to take a leading role.
In return, the scholar will receive the following benefits:
1. occasional solo opportunities in performances, dependent on repertoire.
2. coaching from the MD.
3. chance to lead warm-ups if desired.
4. annual stipend of £1000 paid across three terms.
5. free music hire for the year.
6. two complimentary tickets for each concert.
