Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen at an exciting time of change within our learning disability service; for an enthusiastic and highly motivated physiotherapist to join the Exeter Specialist Health Community Learning Disability Team.
The team provides a client-focused community-based service to adults with a learning disability and complex health needs which cannot be met by mainstream services.
This is a brilliant opportunity to diversify your skill set and gain experience in working with adults with a learning disability; developing your knowledge of reasonable adjustments, hydrotherapy, postural management, and specialist equipment.
We offer a development opportunity for a highly motivated band 5 physiotherapist, who wishes to extend their skills and experiences, with a view to progressing to a band 6 post on completion of our learning disabilities physiotherapy competency framework. Support will be provided with monthly CPD sessions alongside internal and external training. You will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from specialist physiotherapists in a variety of settings including hydrotherapy and postural management clinics.
As well as working in the Exeter MDT, you will be a part of the Devon wide specialist learning disabilities physiotherapy team. We are a Monday to Friday 9-5 service with no requirements for on-call or weekend working. This is a full-time vacancy; however, part-time hours and flexible working can be considered. Hybrid working is also possible.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, sound decision-making abilities, and effective clinical reasoning. You should have a broad range and knowledge of Physiotherapy techniques, a passion for developing these, and a special interest in working with people with learning disabilities and complex physical needs.
You will have responsibility for a caseload and be required to work confidently with adults with learning disabilities with postural and physical needs, completing thorough assessments and providing evidence-based treatment programmes with support from a senior therapist. There will be opportunities to participate in hydrotherapy, postural management clinics, and to work closely with senior physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and students.
