ROLE PURPOSE: The Head of Portfolio Governance and Reporting will play a critical role in overseeing and ensuring the effective governance and execution of our strategic roadmap. While this role requires someone with deep expertise in portfolio management and governance and reporting processes, it will need something more. The successful candidate will also need to have the mental agility to bridge the divide between the strategic and the detailed so that they can highlight (and evidence) the issues of most critical importance for senior stakeholders and provide proactive support in ensuring the portfolio delivers. In this role, you will be responsible for driving consistency, transparency and accountability across the Portfolio, ensuring that the Portfolio delivery is on track, delivering expected outcomes and adhering to timelines, budgets and quality standards. Additionally, you will lead the development and delivery of executive-level reporting and insights to inform decision making and alignment with business goals. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Portfolio Governance • Lead the design and implementation of portfolio governance frameworks that ensure robust oversight of both individual initiatives on the roadmap and the health of the portfolio overall • Ensure effective risk management, issue resolution and decision-making processes are in place across the portfolio and operated at the appropriate levels • Establish a Delivery Lifecycle Methodology and associated standards which provides the consistency of execution and appropriate levels of design and delivery control over projects / initiatives in the roadmap. This methodology will need to accommodate both agile and waterfall modes of delivery and support the business in driving delivery at pace, within an appropriate risk tolerance Portfolio Performance Monitoring • Track the overall health of the portfolio at both a delivery and outcomes focussed level, identifying areas of concern or underperformance and working with Function colleagues and stakeholders across the business to develop and execute mitigation plans • Work with the Head of Portfolio Roadmap & Demand Management to ensure that the portfolio is regularly reviewed using delivery and outcomes-based data, to ensure that it remains achievable, aligned with business strategies, objectives and financial plans • Ensure that the most critical and high priority projects on the roadmap are delivered on time, on budget and achieve the desired outcomes KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS: • Governance framework and delivery lifecycle methodology is established which balances risk management with the ability to execute the strategy at pace and maintain flexibility / agility to changes in the environment • Portfolio operations are efficient and effective – providing control without cumbersome bureaucratic practices or process bottlenecks. • Information provided to Executive leadership, provides clear and actionable insight which actively supports and enables decision making • Portfolio performance and risk is data driven, transparent and visible to all key stakeholders • Governance frameworks facilitate cross-Functional collaboration, aligning the business on priorities • Risks and delivery issues pro-actively managed KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Proven experience in portfolio governance, preferably in dynamic, innovative and fast-paced commercial environments • Excellent understanding of portfolio management frameworks, delivery lifecycle methodologies, governance best practice and risk management • Strong expertise in managing large portfolios that encompass diverse business initiatives such as product development, process improvement and organisational transformation • Demonstrable strengths in executive level reporting and strategic planning • Strongly analytical and data driven with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable insights and communicate in a clear and compelling way with stakeholders at all levels • A great problem-solver – with the ability and willingness to drive action to resolution • Relevant certifications in portfolio management are highly desirable OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE ONE OF THE UK’S MOST INCLUSIVE ORGANISATIONS – WHERE PEOPLE CAN BRING THE BEST OF THEMSELVES, TO DO THEIR BEST WORK, EVERY DAY, FOR THE BENEFIT OF GOOD CAUSES.
