We are looking for an experienced Principal Infrastructure Engineer who is passionate about technology, evolving ways of working, and developing people. In this leadership focussed role, you will provide technical direction, managerial support and mentorship to our Infrastructure Engineering Leads and their respective teams, covering hosting and identity, networks, endpoint and unified communications. As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will have previous experience working in a modern ITIL-based IT service organisation and will collaborate with Product Owners and Delivery Managers to develop and embed agile engineering practices across our Infrastructure squads. You will be an analytical thinker with experience of using data to drive action and be comfortable driving strategic engineering roadmaps. You will work closely with your Lead Engineers to define, implement, operate and evolve secure and reliable infrastructure solutions, bringing experience of managing both traditional and modern IT infrastructure across a multi-site national estate. You will also play a key role in the design and implementation of secure and integrated healthcare solutions. Working closely and collaboratively with architects and technology partners, you will actively contribute to the architecture and technology selection of high-level solutions. You will also be responsible for guiding infrastructure engineers in translating these high-level solutions into low-level designs that cover networking solutions, hosting/cloud infrastructure, identity, data storage and security. You Should Have Previous and recent experience leading and developing other engineering leaders; helping them to build and develop their teams, practices, and ways of working. The ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineering leads, delivery managers and technology partners to design and implement secure and robust network and hosting infrastructure solutions. Expertise in network infrastructure covering LAN, NAC, WAN, SD-SWAN, Wireless and Firewall technologies. Experience with Palo Alto, Cisco and Aruba solutions is desirable. Experience in Server Infrastructure (setup, configuration and maintenance of hardware and software - Windows) and Virtualisation solutions (e.g. VMware, Nutanix) Demonstrable experience working with Azure Cloud infrastructure (e.g. IaaS, PaaS and Serverless solutions). We’re currently operating in a Hybrid Cloud environment and on a journey migrating from on-prem data centres to Azure Cloud. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID or equivalent identity and SSO solutions. Deep understanding of modern operational management for infrastructure platforms, including experience in driving automation, observability, scaling, and maintaining high availability and performance of cloud-based and on-premises systems. Experience working with and managing technology partners, ensuring services and deliverables meet required standards. Deep knowledge of infrastructure security standards and best practices, and experience ensuring solutions comply with industry regulations. A passion and track record for evolving infrastructure solutions, DevSecOps practices and engineering standards by leveraging modern engineering practices such as observability, Infrastructure/configuration-as-code, automation, auto-scaling and self-healing.
