Aspiring Youth Outreach Worker - Aylesbury - Education and Training
This role involves working in a specialist provision for teenagers aged 14-19 who have experienced significant trauma, social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The focus is on holistic and restorative practices, creating empathy at every opportunity. The school emphasizes non-punitive measures, using manual handling training only when absolutely necessary.
A practical trial day will be conducted in the school to ensure the role is suitable for you. This will depend on your availability to start ASAP or if you have a notice period and are looking for a January start.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support students in enhancing their educational experience and keeping them safe.
2. Participate in SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA Training.
3. Work with secondary-aged students with EHCPs, including those with Autism, OCD, and varying degrees of social anxiety.
4. Engage in physical work while being pragmatic to maximize each child's academic progress.
5. Manage some anti-social behavior, understanding this is part of supporting vulnerable children.
6. Implement therapies and holistic processes, recognizing that small progress is a success.
7. Adapt approaches for students with Pathological Demand Avoidance and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
8. Focus on diverse cognitive abilities across all ages.
9. Encourage positive engagement and a sense of acceptance among students.
10. Provide students with objectives and promote independence, especially for those in assisted living.
