Here at NCHA we have a fantastic opportunity for the right person to join our Supported Living and Community Outreach team as a Support Worker. You’ll be able to develop your skills and experience with us as we provide all the training you need to excel in the role.
Our Nottingham South services offer support to individuals in community and in supported living settings, who may require support with personal care and may also display challenging behaviour.
The Role
As a Support Worker, your role will involve helping service users live independently and thrive in their environments. Whilst undertaking these duties, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding towards individuals with varying levels of support needs and accommodate these needs where possible, which could include personal care and supporting individuals with challenging behaviours.
To give you an insight, you might spend your morning helping a young man with learning disabilities get ready for the day by providing personal care, support with breakfast and motivating them to go to their favourite day centre. You could be visiting one of our supported living projects to help someone with their finances and budgeting; ensuring they are able to plan for their future and look towards moving into an independent home.
Your duties depend on the needs of the citizens we provide support for and may include but are not limited to:
Personal care
Administering and/or assisting with Medication
Meal preparation and advocating a healthy lifestyle
Helping the clients to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing such as going to the cinema, arts and crafts, watching football, gardening, shopping trips and social occasions in the community
Improving confidence and independence
Tenancy related support and budgeting/debt management
Please refer to the role profile for a more information.
“Our citizens are individuals and they all deserve to be treated as such with dignity and respect just like you and me” – Current colleague.
What we are looking for
Our ideal candidate should be flexible and caring at all times, and should be willing to do personal care as well. You may encounter challenging behaviour in this role so it is beneficial if you are confident in de-escalating and have experience with challenge behaviour. However, don’t sweat it if you haven’t dealt with this before – we will provide the training you require to fully equip you. This will build your resilience!
Although experience is beneficial, you don’t need to have previous care experience, nor do you need qualifications – we are happy to work with you and support you to become a professional support worker. We look for personal values that align with NCHA’s CLEAR values on our recruitment process.
Working Hours
All successful candidates will be required to work on a rota basis including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins. Shift hours are done between 7.00am and 10.00pm.
