Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is the generic term applied to staff recruited specifically to operate within the inner cordon or in hazardous environments. Individuals may be required to work in hazardous environments such as CBRNE or HazMat situations, structural collapses, complex entrapments, working at height or on or near water.
Hazardous Area Response Teams are expected to be able to operate in highly pressurised environments which may pose real dangers to the individual. You will be appropriately trained and provided with PPE to mitigate against these risks but individuals will still need to be mentally and physically resilient to undertake the role.
You must have post NQP sign off operational experience, be a registered paramedic and possess a minimum of a higher education Diploma in Paramedic Practice or equivalent qualification. You will be required to demonstrate competence in team working, self discipline, communication skills, adaptability, planning skills and decision making. To apply you must have a high level of physical fitness and be capable of swimming 100 metres. Current sickness and disciplinary records will also be considered.
You will also be required to meet more stringent medical standards and may be ineligible to apply if you suffer from vertigo or claustrophobia, wear multi-focal, vari-focal or bi-focal spectacles, or if you suffer from skin allergies or inhaler dependent asthma.
The selection process will involve the completion of number of forms which include an application form, an online psychological assessment, and an occupational health screening form. These will be followed by an occupational health review, an optical assessment, a physical competency assessment, a competency-based interview and pre-employment check. The successful candidates will have to undergo several residential training courses which candidates must be able to attend.
