The Sheriff Appeal Court (Civil) have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the team as an Administrative Officer on a fixed term contract for an initial period of 6 months with the possibility of extension thereafter.
The Sheriff Appeal Court (SAC) Civil commenced in 2016, as part of the Scottish Civil Courts Reforms. The SAC (Civil) team is based in Parliament House, Edinburgh. The Court hears appeals against decisions from the sheriff courts.
Administrative Officers carry out a variety of general administrative duties to progress cases through the court or provide support to other functions within the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service.
The Key Responsibilities
To undertake a number of general administrative duties including:
Operational Delivery
* To support the Clerk of Court and Assistant Clerk in efficiently processing the work of the Sheriff Appeal Court;
* To establish effective communications and working relationships with the members of the Sheriff Appeal Court bench, legal practitioners and colleagues;
* To process and distribute incoming mail which comprises parts of appeal processes and other documents;
* To assist in the processing of the daily business of the SAC (Civil), including, but not limited to:
o dealing with enquiries at the public counter, via mail, telephone and email;
o liaising with the procedural Appeal Sheriff;
o processing all aspects of civil applications received by the Sheriff Appeal Court, including stated case appeals;
o accounting for fees where appropriate;
o transmission of papers to the SAC bench and Court Clerk;
o maintaining the Sheriff Appeal Court Register.
