A dedicated and enthusiastic individual is required to join our team as a Housekeeper on Swinley Ward and Gynae Assessment Unit.
Swinley Ward is a busy 26 bedded female ward with high acuity and a fast patient turnover.
This is an exciting opportunity for a reliable and hardworking Housekeeper to contribute to the delivery of high quality care.
Working 07:00 - 15:00 shifts Saturday and Sunday but flexible to provide cover Monday - Friday as required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness on the ward, maintaining stock levels and completing regular stock-take audits, ordering ward supplies, providing refreshments to post-op patients, and daily/weekly checks as per infection control guidelines.

Job responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Function as a team member of the Multidisciplinary Team by assisting the Registered Nurse in the delivery of effective high quality patient care. All work undertaken by the post holder will be under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
2. Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward ensuring general and specialist equipment are cleaned as policy.
3. Ensure the ward is always safe and tidy by dealing swiftly with spillages and removing clutter. Checking that notices/boards are tidy, and that signage meets the required standard.
4. Maintain the upkeep of patients bed areas ensuring specialist cleaning of surfaces, furnishings and isolation nursing areas are cleaned appropriately.
5. Ensure the areas where food and beverages are served are clean and pleasant.
6. Respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out household duties and also maintaining the safety of patients property and belongings.
7. Assist the patients to order food ensuring special requirements are taken into account so that dietary needs are met.
8. Ensure that patients are given hand-washing facilities before serving food and beverages to them.
9. Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks and food as requested coordinating extra requirements that may arise to offer a 24-hour snack service.
10. Serve meals in conjunction with the Nursing Team ensuring patients intake is known and checking all food and beverages are served at the correct temperature according to food hygiene regulations.
11. Ensure patients have any assistance they require to eat and drink monitoring intake and reporting to the Ward Nurse.
12. Ensure patients whose fluid intake is not medically restricted have access to fresh water.
13. Ensure the ward kitchen is clean at all times, checking refrigerated food is labelled and shelved as policy.
14. Wash equipment/utensils used in preparation and serving of food and beverages.
15. Evaluate the monitoring of the service delivery especially related to cleaning, food, linen and the environment at the agreed frequency informing the Ward Manager of outcomes so that action plans can be taken if needed.
16. Liaise with Estates and Works Departments in respect of all maintenance issues.
17. Plan the transport and disposal of clinical, domestic and confidential waste as per policy.
18. Check the ward has sufficient stock to meet the patients and staff requirements.
19. Order ward supplies on a weekly basis to replenish ward stocks.
20. Complete daily checking of equipment and returning of equipment no longer in use for reprocessing or storing safely in the correct place following decontamination, logging any defects.
21. Maintain a cleaning and checking programme of all beds and mattresses in line with the policy.
22. To communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and high-quality care is provided to all patients.
23. Maintain effective working relationships with ward colleagues particularly those highlighted within the organisational chart above.

* Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy using correct sentence structures and vocabulary and without hesitation

Experience
* Previous experience of housekeeper or similar role
* Previous NHS experience
Qualifications
* Basic level maths and English qualification or equivalent
