About the School / Service We are Residential Life, and we oversee and manage the Halls of Residence at the University of East London, providing students with a safe, welcoming and supportive environment to live, learn and connect. Our team oversees 1,169 rooms across the Halls of Residence, acting as first point of contact for all residents, prospective residents, and summer conferencing guests. About the Job The Senior Residential Life Officer takes responsibility for providing effective operational management of our Halls of Residence, proactively seeking improvements to our student and guest experience in residences. This position is a temporary role to provide maternity cover, expected to last one year. The post holder will be based on campus, and weekend work is required. Experience of working in a multi-functional residential service, of a similar size and complexity to our university accommodation Experience of supporting a summer conferencing programme (or similar) including classroom bookings, accommodation bookings, contract management and client liaison Experience of leading teams or individuals, providing vision, inspiring motivation, generating enthusiasm and empowering a culture of service delivery which meets or exceeds agreed standards for performance and customer service Experience of managing multiple people, monitoring of delivery and appraisal, including use of extra training and/or performance management techniques as and when required. Experience of project management within a student/customer focussed environment. Significant knowledge and understanding of health and safety and other statutory requirements related to the provision of student residential accommodation About You The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing multi-functional residential accommodation, ideally within a university or similar environment. You will bring hands-on experience in supporting diverse operational needs, including summer conferencing programmes, accommodation, and client liaison. A proactive approach to project management is essential, as is a good understanding of Health and Safety and other statutory requirements related to Residential accommodation. You’ll also be adept at managing staff performance, offering coaching and development where needed to achieve shared goals.
